Living Labs Road freight
This Living Lab brings together technology companies, terminals, shippers, and carriers to digitally transform logistical and administrative processes in container logistics in an innovative way. The goal of this forward-thinking collaboration is to enable paperless, efficient, and secure multimodal container transport in the hinterland and to and from the Port of Rotterdam—for both import and export flows.
The Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI) serves as the foundation for the trusted and secure exchange of data between supply chain partners.
Living Lab cases
In container logistics, we are actively working to standardize secure and efficient data sharing. We are doing this based on the trusted BDI agreement framework. Currently, we are working on:
Digitization of freight documents in container logistics
Objectives of this new Living Lab:

- Paperless operations: Digitization and data-driven processes become the standard.

- Document management solution: Documents, handover moments, and signing processes are digitally and automatically recorded.

- Secure transport process: Carriers and their drivers operate within a secured process to hand over containers.

- Relevant information at the right time: Parties share timely, relevant data with their supply chain partners.
The Living Lab will be carried out in 2024 and 2025 under the umbrella of the DIL program and in close collaboration with the JCOR action program. Together, DIL and JCOR, in partnership with all involved parties, strive for a careful and successful rollout to transshipment terminals, carriers, and shippers across the Netherlands.
