Pilot launched with Track & Trace standard for the Port Community System of the port of Rotterdam.
Published on April 18, 2025DCSA (Digital Container Shipping Association) announced that the Port of Rotterdam is the first major port in the world to launch a pilot of the Track & Trace (T&T) standard of the DCSA within its Port Community System (Portbase). If successful, the pilot could lead to a significant improvement in container tracking and visibility in one of the busiest ports worldwide – and a key gateway to Europe.
The milestone is the result of a unique collaboration between Portbase (the Port Community System for Dutch ports), DCSA and the program Digitale Infrastructuur Logistiek (DIL).
The T&T standard enables shippers to track the location and status of their goods from door to door, regardless of the IT system or logistics service provider they use. If the pilot results in full integration of the DCSA T&T standard into Portbase, it will lead to efficient, reliable, and transparent export processes for companies transporting their goods via Rotterdam.
The standard is already widely used by members of the DCSA and supports over 180 million container tracking events per month worldwide, accounting for 75% of global container transport. The pilot, conducted in collaboration with Portbase and based on the principles of BDI - in the Port of Rotterdam confirms the status of the DCSA-standard as the de facto global Track & Trace-standard for container transport.
