Start of Connected Trade Network Implementation: A New Digital Step in Container Logistics
Published on January 19, 2026With the signing by inland terminals ITG, Contargo, Van Berkel Logistics and Portbase, the implementation phase of the Connected Trade Network (CTN) for container logistics was officially launched today.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of outgoing Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Robert Tieman, during his working visit to ITG in Rotterdam Pernis. His presence underscored the importance of CTN for logistics, trade and the economy – in the Netherlands and beyond.

CTN is a digital logistics ecosystem that enables parties in container logistics to share data in a secure and standardized manner. The initiative marks a new phase in the digital transformation of Dutch container logistics. By connecting supply chain stakeholders within CTN, the exchange of information between seaports and the hinterland is significantly improved. Containers and cargo, for instance, become much easier to trace. This supports better forecasting and planning of logistics processes – including more informed modal choices. CTN strengthens the position of individual companies and makes the logistics chain more efficient, reliable and sustainable.
The three inland terminals now taking the lead in implementing CTN representing around 25% of container logistics between the Port of Rotterdam and the hinterland. Their collaboration with Portbase, the port community system, highlights the shared commitment to a future-proof, digitally connected logistics infrastructure for the entire container logistics sector.
‘Connected Trade Network is a well-considered initiative that strengthens digital cooperation between supply chain partners,’ said the participating inland terminals and Portbase. ‘We are proud to launch this project with strong partners on board. Many other players in container logistics are expected to follow – interest is high, and entrepreneurs have already expressed their willingness to join.’
